The Associated Press has promoted two journalists who will move to different bureaus. Sarah Rankin joined AP in 2013 and has been based in Chicago as an editor for the central region – editing, reporting and writing for the 14-state area. On Nov. 2, she will join the AP’s bureau in Richmond, Virginia, as a reporter covering general assignments and the environment. Michael Virtanen will start as AP’s correspondent in Morgantown, West Virginia, on Oct. 17 covering news in Appalachia. Virtanen has been with AP since 2001 and is moving from his post in Albany, New York, where he served as a statehouse reporter, staff writer and desk editor. Follow the AP on Twitter.
