The Associated Press has announced an initiative to renew and broaden its efforts in watchdog and computer-assisted journalism with a reshuffling of some reporters, launching of new teams and addition of two new staffers. Ronnie Greene and Jeff Horwitz have been named new additions to the AP’s Washington-based team as of June. Greene was previously a reporter with the Center for Public Integrity’s IWatch News. Horwitz was most recently a Knigh-Bagehot Fellow at Columbia University, following a four-year stint with American Banker. Led by Ted Bridis, the Washington team is comprised of Stephen Braun, Dina Cappiello, Jack Gillum and Eileen Sullivan.
Joining AP’s U.S. Investigations team are several reporters around the country already working with the news service, but in more general reporting roles. This team adds David B. Caruso in New York; Michael Kunzelman in New Orleans; Garance Burke in San Francisco; and Holbrook Mohr in Jackson, Mississippi. The team, which focuses on investigative projects with a state or local focus, is overseen by national investigative editor Rick Pienciak in New York and also includes Jeff Donn in Boston.
Also launching is the AP’s international investigations effort, led by Washington-based editor Trish Wilson. The new team includes Raphael Satter in London; Erika Kinetz, who moves to Shanghai from Myanmar; Richard Lardner in Washington; and Frank Bajak in Lima, Peru.
